Trailblazer Group Volunteer

Could you help us make nature accessible for everyone?
8 hrs / week From Tue 3rd Jan 2023

Open Country's new Trailblazer group is aimed at helping to make nature accessible to everyone. We run every Tuesday 10am - 4pm.

We do mostly path laying (on public footpaths in green spaces), vegetation cut back work, bench building, barrier removal (replacing stiles with gates) and some conservation tasks too. In the new year we have path work booked in most weeks with a couple of tree planting days too. Our aim is that everyone can use the paths we work on, including wheelchair users. Flattening and widening the path makes a huge difference, as well as replacing steps with ramps.

This type of work is quite labour intensive, but its fun, satisfying and makes a huge difference to path users. No experience necessary but you need to be relatively fit. The group consists of members with learning disabilities so you'll need to be able to assist them as well as helping with tasks.
