Thursday Walking Volunteer

An opportunity for volunteers to join our 'Wild Walkers' which group runs ever Thursday
Flexible hours From Thu 11th Jan 2024 Wakefield West view map

Join us at Open Country (Charity No. 1107331) the award-winning charity and help disabled people to access the countryside. We are running a wide variety of activities in Wakefield, including hiking, wheelchair walks, nature work parties and tandem cycling. If you have a love of the outdoors and an empathy for people with disabilities, we’d love to hear from you!

The Wild Walkers group meets every Thursday from Thornes Park in Wakefield and we go out in our accessible minibus between 10am - 4pm, to variety of different locations, from canal paths to scenic moorland walks. Walks are usually between 4-7 miles long with a picnic break enroute. The group is made up of adults with learning disabilities, and your role is to assist them throughout the walk. No experience is necessary, all training and a full induction is provided. Volunteers are part of a quarterly rota so there is no commitment to every week and you have plenty of notice to plan around the group.
