Lead Cook

Could you lead the meal preparation on a Wednesday morning for our soup kitchen?
3 hrs / week Flexible Castleford Central and Glasshoughton view map

Many of our guests struggle to feed themselves and/or are extremely isolated or suffer with addiction and what we do allows them the opportunity to share a hot meal with other members of the community in a safe and friendly environment and seek advice/support from our Support co-ordinator and other drop in services during sessions such as Turning point and local Police.

We also provide monitored access to food parcels and our clothing bank.

We are in need of somebody with experience cooking (this does not need to be professional) who is comfortable to work autonomously but also help lead others.

You will be completely supported by our Services manager who will share what food we have available and what needs using every week according to our freezer stock etc.

Some examples of what we regularly cook are:

Lasagne, Casseroles, pre made pies with chips, chicken, chilli con carne etc.

The core of the role will be to come in around 9am and begin preparing the meal, you will need to be comfortable instructing and working with 1 or 2 other volunteers who will be there to help from about 10.

We open to serve at 12 until 2pm so the meal must be ready by 12.
