Environmental and Gardening Volunteer

We're looking for people interested in gardening at Pontefract Castle
Flexible hours Flexible

We have been making improvements to the site at Pontefract Castle since we began the Key to the North project in 2015. We have already conserved the ruins, built a new visitor centre, café and band stand. This latest programme of work will see thousands of saplings planted across the site, to improve habitats, diversity, winter colour and as a resource for craft materials.

We are looking for people interested in gardening and wildlife, but we aren’t seeking experts. All training will be provided so you can come with no experience or a lot of experience. You should be willing to get your hands dirty!

Largely based outside in the grounds of the castle, you will:

  • Help plant shrubs as directed across the castle grounds.
  • Help plant saplings as directed across the castle grounds.
  • Help look after and maintain the plants as they grow.
